Untitled

I lie awake and think at night,

When darkness comes and day is done.

My mind sprouts wings and ventures flight,

My love, the stars, the moon, the sun.

My mind and heart are ill at ease

In wonder, awe and sadness.

Knowing that someday, my love

Will leave this world in gladness.

The frigid cold, the white hot heat,

Perhaps to Saturn, Mars or Venus.

To suspension in the universe,

Through scientific genius.

Perhaps to life and vegetation,

Perhaps to barren, rotten land.

To mountains, stagnant water, or

To footprints in the sand.

No one knows what really lies

Beyond our atmosphere,

The answer is to look, explore

With knowledge and hope, we may draw near.

Near to mastering the skies,

The moons, the yet unknown.

The rocket replaces the ancient plane,

The jets, ----------- the engine drones.

And I stand firm, in that I know

That when my love explores the sky,

My head and heart will be turned up,

I will not be of those who cry.
